mercury mail server recieves only from local host

Hi,
i have set up xampp and mercury mailserver.
im hosting domains on my ip, and set up all neccesary information on the mercury settings,
but,
i can only recieve mail coming from within the local host,
say: from 'name@mydomain.com' to 'name@mydomain.com'
and mail coming from outside to me is not even shown in mercury as recieved or queued or anything, and i have my ports open for IMAP POP and SMTP.
if i send from my 'gmail' or other account after a few minutes i get an error:TEMP_FAILURE: The recipient server did not accept our requests to connect.

sending mail from my 'name@mydomain.com' works through a relay of my ISP's server.

does anyone have an answer? i tried searching but nothing...
