Apache Friends Support Forum

I'm new to this, so sorry if this is really naive. And have looked for another post with this question but I cannot find any.

I have installed and started everything, but when I go to http://localhost I am asked for user name and password. It's a 401.1 error. This happens on firefox, but on IE I get to a microsoft XP Internet information services 5.1 page.

I have no idea what is going on or how to fix it, any suggestions would help.

You must stop IIS from XP if you want run XAMPP/Apache.
