Can't start mysql

Problems with the Windows version of XAMPP, questions, comments, and anything related.

Can't start mysql

Postby lifestyled » 15. May 2008 17:40

Each time I try to start Mysql in the xampp control panel I get the mysql screen for about two seconds before it vanishes to be replaced by a continuously repeating error message, "access violation at address 10002593 in module libmysql.dll Read of address 000000" The only way to stop it is to click the traffic lights in the user tray and stop the service. (I'm a mac user who occasionally uses an IBM T30 laptop).

Xampp is running (or not in this case) on the IBM with windows xp pro. Any ideas or advice on what this is and how to deal with it?
Many thanks

I'm no expert on this, but if I were you I'd just download the package all over and reinstall... this sounds like the libmysql.dll is bad.
Or maybe it's using the wrong libmysql.dll? If you search your hard drive for it, do you have it outside of the xampp directory also?

Can't start MySql

Postby lifestyled » 16. May 2008 09:26

My apologies for not properly identifying the nature of this problem at the outset.

The MYsql service starts and runs fine at start up and from the Xampp control panel. The error previously mentioned occurs when I try to start MySql admin from the control panel. I have done two complete re-installs, as per ifokkema's suggestion (thank you) and checked that there are no other libmysql.dll other than those installed by Xampp (4 in total).

Many thanks for any help.

I've googled around a bit for you, and it seems you're not alone.
MySQL bug report about this:
http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=35189
XAMPP bug report:
http://bugs.xampp.org/print_bug_page.php?bug_id=71
Possible solution that I don't really follow but maybe you do:

Thanks Ivo, I'll try the MySql route and if that doesn't work, will have to rely on my present two systems approach
