Installing Perl Add-On Dies

Postby ecuguru » 24. April 2008 01:15

Hi,

I need perl modules that are not in the basic 1.6.6a install for Windows.
I tried using the perl add-on installer, but it gave me an error of:
"win32 not found. unable to get install path"
Xampp is sitting C:\xampp\

So I downloaded the zip perl-addon file. I see in the directions that after adding all the files, I need to run setup_xampp.bat.
But when I run it, it says that it doesn't need to do anything. Does that matter?

Ultimately, I'm trying to get PPM running so I can install other modules. If there is a better way to do this, please yell.
Thanks!

Install ActivePerl from ActiveState and not the XAMPP Perl AddOn.

I was thinking that too, but I'd really like to maintain the ability to run this off a thumbdrive, and keep it portable. Once I use Activestate, I'll need to install wherever I go, which defeats the point.

Or, any chance to use activestate off of a thumbdrive without needing to do system path or registry changes?

Never tried this. But IMHO there is also a ZIP for installation which you can try to use for this..

My thumbdrive has a capability of 12GB - by far more than Xampp and Perl together. I dont think that all the software exceeds 1 or 2GB at all. So i see no problem there.

Yes. I dont think that Active Perl needs any registration in windows.
