Problems with the Windows version of XAMPP, questions, comments, and anything related.

Okay I checked the services and mysql is not started so then I started xampp. Go back to services and it is still not running. Hit start on the xampp control panel for mysql and this message comes up on the control panel: Error mysql service not started.

So i use the bat to start it and this comes up.

Error Do you already have another sql service running on port 3306

Error aborting

note mysql/bin/mysqld: Shutdown complete

mysql could not be started

Press any key to continue

This is all from the command prompt. That is where I'm at. Don't know what is wrong.

Go back to services and it is still not running.

You can start the service also in this Windows service manager (not the XAMPP control panel). And as I told you before: If the service can't start, there must be something in the Windows event log (you have more then one log in Windows!)

BTW:
Error Do you already have another sql service running on port 3306

With e.g. "xampp-portcheck", netstat or tcpview, you can find the program which is using port 3306 (maybe it's only your firewall...)

okay port 3306 is running mysql. It is not running on my services though when i try to start it on the services page this comes up:

could not start the mysql services on the local computer

Error 2 the system can not find the specified file.

the only thing on my event log is the hanging application.

Hanging application winmysqladmin.exe, version 1.0.0.0, hang module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.

Error 2 the system can not find the specified file.

Ok, the current registered service can be from an old installation. (there was an old installation and you have not deinstalled it correctly?)

You can delete this service with "sc delete mysql" (in the shell) and then use "mysql_installservice.bat" to re-register it.

Your black Windows shell (cmd.exe) where you can enter commands.

just making sure I don't screw this up. I go to command prompt and type in

sc delete mysql

then go to the xampp and reinstall it using the mysql_installservice.bat file. Do I need to uninstall the all versions of xampp also. just checking on that.

Got it, Yeah. Now just one more problem. I am following this guide

http://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/xampp/

and when I get to the part where I am supposed to hit phpmyadmin in tools, it just sends me to a blank screen. How do I correct this so that I can create new database. Thanks again for getting me to get this running. I am so close now to where I need to be.
