Security for a locally installed Wordpress blog on XP Home?

Postby lascotia » 05. April 2008 12:39

Hello.

I am very new to all this, so please bear with me.

I'd be grateful for advice...

I want to install Wordpress on my XP home computer to do a test blog.

I managed to successfully do this via XAMPP Lite but, after changing the passwords on MySQL and the XAMPP directory within the security panel, my Wordpress install couldn't connect to the database.

A pop up window asked me to log in to the XAMPP but Windows warned that the password would be sent in an unsecure manner.

Could someone please tell me (hopefully in easy-to-follow) steps, exactly how I ensure I have proper security for my pc and locally installed Wordpress blog.

Thank you in advance.

To be safe against internet attacks theres only one way.

Configure your Router Filter to max safety.
Download a nice firewall. (i dislike InternetSecuritySuites.)

My favourite(and of many business users) is COMODO Firewall. Download it at www.comodo.com .

It may takes a bit to be configured.

Hello.

Than you for the tip.

I actually meant how I can ensure the pc is secure with regards it running XAMPP lite i.e. Apache and MySQL?

Sorry...

I figure the warning talks about the connection is not encrypted (no SSL). But I dont have any idea about how to solve that...
