Getting started with Mercury mail

I've been using Apache, PHP and MySQL for a while on my local test machine but I now want to be able to test my PHP mail() calls locally as well. I've started Mercury in XAMPP control panel and tried to send an email to my real email address. In the Mercury SMTP Server status is a message 553 We do not relay non-local mail, sorry.

I'm not sure where to look for help.

In case you're still stuck with this, set the 'relay' setting in mercury.ini to 1.
