installation problems

Hi all, i have just removed an old outdated windows http server and its associated ftp server from a box which is already strapped to a dynamic url, everything appears to have installed ok but when i access the url from another machine on the lan instead of getting the "it works !" page (which i assume i should) i get the xampp admin loggin prompt and if given the correct details logs me in, so i am wondering what i have done wrong, thx and sorry about the stupid question...
