Problems with install

Postby skidmore » 01. March 2008 08:16

Hi,

Problems at the start!!

I'm on Windows Vista with latest xammp.

According to xampp control panel everything is working services are running but I can't connect using either http://localhost or http://127.0.0.1. I don't think it's timeout as it's only about 10 seconds before it gives up and tells me the web site can not be displayed- Clicking explorers " diagnose the problem" says http://127.0.0.1 could not be found.

I did install with the "user accounts" deactivated.

Apache logs read
[Sat Mar 01 07:15:31 2008] [notice] Apache/2.2.8 (Win32) DAV/2 mod_ssl/2.2.8 OpenSSL/0.9.8g mod_autoindex_color PHP/5.2.5 configured -- resuming normal operations

[Sat Mar 01 07:15:31 2008] [notice] Child 4916: Acquired the start mutex.
[Sat Mar 01 07:15:31 2008] [notice] Child 4916: Starting 250 worker threads.
[Sat Mar 01 07:15:31 2008] [notice] Child 4916: Starting thread to listen on port 443.
[Sat Mar 01 07:15:31 2008] [notice] Child 4916: Starting thread to listen on port 80.

During install there was an error shown in the command window the only part of which I was able to read - something said "would need attension" -> can't find anyxthing wrong to sort out what!!

If it provides a clue I've tried a port check using xampp-portcheck -> I get an error -> "openports.exe doesn't work" (sorry if that is not exact wording but I'm using a german system although my german is lousy!)

(Don't have skype -> in fact I don't have anything as this was one of the first things I wanted to get running!!)

I think I've checked everything I've found elsewhere to check

grateful for some help

Cheers

chris

Must have valid user

What happens if you open a command prompt on the computer that has
the server and type ping 127.0.0.1
Windows Must have a user account activated.
You should get a prompt to select user when the computer
first boots.
