How can I connect directly to MySQL?

Postby johnredfield » 26. February 2008 19:05

Hello,
I just installed Xampp 1.6.6a on both my Vista machine (C:\Xampp) and XP (C:\Program Files\Xampp), everything appears to be running. Xampp control panel shows Apache and MySQl running. Using PhpMySQLAdmin I can coneect to Mysql server and create databases etc.

But I cant get/find command line client for Mysql?

Also, when trying to check status through Windows command prompt (...xampp\mysql\bin> mysqladmin status ) I get this error message: "Access denied for user ODBC@localhost <using password: NO>"

Right now I have not changed anything, everything is default from install (root/ no_password).

Can anyone help me get started here? I have been wanting to learn MySql for a long time now. :)

Thanks for anything you can share to help me out.

You must provide an user and password for the connection as parameter.

Passwords

It should let you in without a password if you haven't created one.
Mysql is initially installed without any password of any kind.
If you can get in with privileges through PHPMyadmin
without a password you shouldn't need one with the command line
either.
