This behavior could be related to pv.exe that the Control Panel uses to kill processes but is not being released as it should.

When you notice this, simply check the Windows Task Manager - right click on the Task Bar and select Task Manager then the Processes tab - to see what process is using up resources.

If you see the pv.exe process using lots of resources, then try and kill the process - but as you say when you close the CP it kills what ever is causing the disk to be accessed anyway.

It is not any virus or malware activity from the CP but a slight malfunction perhaps.

You can download the latest version of the Control Panel from here:
http://www.nat32.com/xampp
and overwrite your existing CP with the new one.

Hi !

First hanks for your reply. I tried your suggestions but i still the same annoying "ticking". I have xampp.exe (control panel) constantly using 04-05 cpu. I also noticed that i had the same version as the one on your link.

You have some choices here, one is to use the batch files to start/stop the XAMPP modules and to install/uninstall the services or get support for the Control Panel from the nat32 site above.

Alternatively you can use the DTX-Control from http://zedfiles.com/DTX/

Other than that I can't help as it is a third party piece of software that would require the developers of it to give you the answers/solutions to your issue - I have not had this happen on my installation and I can't replicate it either.

Even though you had the same version of the CP 2.5 on your system it could have been corrupted in some way and a new fresh installation sometimes fixes these strange issues - also it may not even be CP related but some other problem with your XAMPP installation that is causing the CP to behave in this manner.
