Websites not Appearing?

Postby random1 » 17. December 2007 07:45

I have installed the latest version of XAMPP for Windows.

I have checked and it is set up correctly. I have copied website I know work into the C:/XAMPP/htdocs folder but they are not appearing in Firefox or Internet Explorer:

In the screenshot Firefox and IE are to the right and to the left is the Windows Explorer window of the actual folder structure.

Is there a special step needed to add website folders in XAMPP?

Looks like it is working as intended to me - the indexes are working.

If you don't want to see only files and directories then you need an index.html or an index.php etc for your web site in your htdocs directory to replace the one you moved to backups when you added your web site's files.

Http://localhost/ for your web site when you have added an index file.

http://localhost/backups/xampp/ for the XAMPP Welcome Page with demos and admin files.

BTW you have used the wrong link to your image at ImageShack - it is displaying a bloated thumbnail image- I had to go to the direct link to see your image:

Hi Izzy,

I've tried the index file and I get an server error 500 message.

The website I added uses MySQL, PHP.

You have to find out why you are getting a server 500 error.

Check you error.log file for details of any server error you get.
xampp\apache\logs\error.log

Quite a few sites use php and MySQL but they all still need a starter page, index.php or index.html etc. in the website root directory or you will always get what you see now a directory index of/ - pretty basic stuff really which you must get a handle on before proceeding much deeper in to server technology.

Some reading.
