Which XAMPP?

At the moment theres version 2.2 which has a date of 2004 and version 1.6.4 which seems to be more recent.
Also, if I download a .zip version, what do I have to do to get things running. At the moment I go for an .exe file which installs everything for me,....or does it?

Hi Donna,
I did everything using the "installer" version. It did do everything for me. Just be aware that if you're using Skype, you will have issues with Apache installing because Skype uses ports 80 and 443 (I think) as alternative ports for incoming calls.

Thanks for that reply. I know the installer does everything, I wanted to increase my knowledge about the specific tech differences?
I realised that Skype used these ports to after a little looking!
