Running XAMPP on U3 USB for Windows and Linux

I'm able to run the Xampp via a U3 USB drive on Windows.

Is it possible to safely use both Windows and Linux versions of XAMPP on a USB drive? The wouldn't be used at the same time; but I'd like to be able to update a USB database while working on either Windows or Linux.

Using Linux Ubuntu and Win XP.
