Apache won't work

Postby razzor » 26. October 2007 16:33

Hi,

I'm having the same problem as felipe. Apache won't work on my computer, but MySQL does. I check the xampp-portcheck.exe and

Apache HTTP 80 free
Apache WebDav 81 free
Apache HTTPS 443 free

MySQL 3306 C:\My Downloads\xampplite\mysql\bin\mysqld-nt.exe

etc...

Is there something I need to add next to port 80, like a path? If so, what path should I add?

Thanks

I tried to start it as a service. It didn't work. I also tried to double click on apache icon inside the bin and no result.

OBTW when I use the service tool, it says Apache cannot start because it can't find the path. How can I get the path information?

Thx

I tried to start it as a service.

You mean with: "net start Apache2.2"?
- What happens exactly?
- What can you read in the Windows application event log?

I also tried to double click on apache icon inside the bin and no result.

IMHO if you wan run Apache as console application, it's better to use "apache_start.bat" and read the output.

When I run apache_start.bat it says:

Apache 2 is starting...

and that's all. nothing else.

Also when I use the XAMPP Control Panel MySQL says running. When I click Start on Apache svc

I get this:

Busy...
Error: Apache service not started [-1]

There is nothing prepending this line like: "Please close this command only for Shutdown"?

Error: Apache service not started [-1]

"start" "run" type in: eventvwr
then click OK and off you go.

Yes there's such a thing.

Here's what the event log says:

Apache2.2 fails to start due to the following error:
system cannot find the path specified

Yes there's such a thing.

Well, in a normal start this line:
Code: Select all
Apache 2 is starting...

is the last line and Apache is running now as console application.

Apache2.2 fails to start due to the following error:
system cannot find the path specified

This is not your first Apache installation?

Run this command in the shell:
Code: Select all
sc delete Apache2.2

Then create a new service with "apache_installservice.bat".

This wasn't my first installation, but I thought I deleted all XAMPP related stuff since my <?php phpinfo() ?> wasn't working.

Now how and where can I run that shell script?

Thanks

To open a command prompt (shell) try this:
http://community.apachefriends.org/f/viewtopi ... 881#108881
And here:
http://community.apachefriends.org/f/viewtopi ... 403#107403
But change the sc delete Apache2 to sc delete Apache2.2

TIP
Always try and give as much information about your issue as you can, as you can see by the numerous posts asking for more details that it will take more needless time to effect a satisfactory outcome.

The forum search facility is your best friend.

Sorry, PM by invitation only! :)

TIP
Yet another tip, for Vista in particular but not limited to it.

Try to avoid installing XAMPP to a directory that has a space in the directory (folder) name like:
C:\My Downloads\
C:\Program Files\
C:\My Budgies Perch and All Things Seedy\
etc.etc.
Get the idea?

IMHO using the root of a drive is best practice and will, for some, eliminate some hassles now and in the future.
C:\xampp\
D:\xampp\
Z:\xampp\
etc.etc.

Did you manage to get Apache working using the 'sc delete Apache2.2 command in the shell' fix?
Your reply may help other members searching who have a similar issue, if it worked that is.
