xampp not working

Postby thealias » 26. October 2007 13:18

(To clarify, as per the URL, I installed XamppLite)

I'm starting my first website (just a wordpress blog) and I'm trying to make myself my own theme. I am following these instructions: http://geeksaresexy.blogspot.com/2006/0 ... under.html

I get stuck on #3 and #4 - I run Apache - it seems to work properly. But then I run the Mysql service and it just never stops "running" and nothing ever happens.

Then when I try to open http://localhost/ - nothing happens either (I get a Page Cannot Be Displayed error)

I've tried disabling zone alarm (restarting and disabling, etc)
I've trying doing the regedit that is on these forums here somewhere

I need everything to be explained in lamens please.

And also - is there an easier way to make a theme than going through all this?

EDIT: Almost forgot, I sometimes close it and reopen the program - and it says "***Directory Mismatch***".

Regarding your "Directory mismatch":

Following courtesy Izzy et al:

The other issue regarding directory mismatch using the XAMPP Control Panel seemed to have been solved by this poster:

Give it a try and see if helps you also.

Worked for me (skeezix)!

You did run setup_xampp.bat and it did install successfully, right?

I added the following line to my hosts file:

Code: Select all
127.0.0.1   localhost

Don't know if it's required though.

About easy themes - you can always boost one and modify it. But you'll have to learn CSS and WP so you can figger out WTH you're doing (I haven't figgered out what I'm doing yet...)
