PhpMyAdmin is free accessible by network

Postby pcs800 » 04. September 2007 23:53

PhpMyAdmin is accessible by network without password. The configuration 'httpd' or 'cookie' in the "config.inc.php" can help.

I cannot find anything in config.inc.php that looks like it needs changing.

Can someone tell me what to change in the file to make this security error go away?

Try setting a password for it using:
http://localhost/xampp
Select the Security item in the menu.

Click on this link:
http://localhost/security/xamppsecurity.php

Set your New Password here:
MYSQL SECTION: "ROOT" PASSWORD
(No need to enter your old password if you haven't set one already).

Check the Cookie or HTTP button as preferred (I choose to use a cookie as my preferred method).

f you are likely to forget your password then click the next entry.
You can always delete this after you are sure your passwords are remembered.

You can optionally create a user/pass for access to the XAMPP files on this page also.

Now your phpMyAdmin will be protected by a user/pass combo
user: root
pass: what you set

MySQL and phpMyAdmin share the same user/pass combo.

Now go to http://localhost/xampp again and select the phpMyAdmin menu item and you will now be asked for your a user/pass.
Enter root as the user and add the password you set and all should be secure now for you.

Take a look at the new DeskTopXampp launch control posted by ridgewood:

The DeskTopXampp launch control for XAMPP and XAMPPlite (DTX.exe)
is available here:
http://zedfiles.com/DTX/

I highly recommend DTX.

Thanks, that got it.
I didn't like the dtx thing, the xampp control panel seems better. But then again, I'm new to this.
