Im totally lost here.. I'm using FileZilla, and have uploaded everything I want, including an index page, but how do I target it from a browser?

depends where you're uploading to???
if you're testing your site on your local machine, the default place for your development files is xampp/htdocs/your_site_directory

And in your browser you would enter: http://localhost/your_site_directory

well I figured out how to direct my browser to it by using http://mycomputername/ that works fine.. but really, what I'm doing this for is to be able to host my web site from my computer, and not have to use bizland.. I pay for a domain name and such, so if someone types that in, I want it to display off my computer. Right now I'm registering the domain at zoneedit, I'm just waiting for my registrar to change my namespace to zoneedit from bizland.. after that, I have no idea what to do.. I was reading a lot on this forum, and I see about virtual host, however, I dont understand where to put that code...

use hyperlinks like
"/start.php"

and paths for pictures like
"pic01.jpg"

DonĀ“t use the url
