Problem in uploading a file

I setup a wiki but whenever I try to upload a file (using Upload a File link from sidebar) i get a message "The Upload directory() is not writable by webserver"


when i luk at my wiki folder in htdocs, it is read-only. even if check out the readonly chk box in folder properties, it remains as "read only"

help plzzzz
