xampp won't show in browser

How do I get the screenshot as shown on page 35 in the "e-start your web store with zen cart" manual? I keep getting a message saying "unable to connect." I am using mozilla firefox and am typing, 'http://localhost' in the address field of that browser.

I have managed to get the software working, but now it's in german and there is no language to select from in the left pane.

If you have problems with the setup in
that book, you can try to contact the author via the email address found at the bottom of pg 22 in the book
