I recently was forced to uninstall and re-install v 1.6.0a but I can't get the Apache service to start. I have stopped my IIS service and changed the localhost port setting to 8080 in the http.conf file.

Any thoughts or guesses would be appreciated.

PS: It had been working faultlessly until my machine went into a tight loop and had to be forcibly powered down!

Did you ever fix this? I seem to have a similar problem.

Yes, I figured out that when I elected not to delete files in htdocs, I was preserving my own files AND some xampp files. After deleting all but my own files from htdocs and then redoing the install, everything came up as expected.
