Status Check Failure [3]

Hope someone can help!

I've been using XAMPP for a few months without any problems until today. Whenever I try to launch the XAMPP Control Panel, the following message appears: 'XAMPP Component Status Check Failure [3]. Run this program only from your XAMPP root directory.'

What is causing this problem? I have seen previous posts relating to the possibility of the firewall or anti virus software causing the problem. Disabling both makes no difference.

It would be good to know what 'Component Status Check Failure [3]' actually means, but I guess few people will know.

Any advice would be gratefully received!
