send mail problem please help

Postby Txchaser » 24. January 2007 15:38

I have xampp set up website on and showing and my mail server working correctly. I am trying to get a form mail script working the right way now.
I am not sure if I am setting the correct paths in the script itself. I need to know where sendmail is actually located as of right now it is set to this: '/usr/lib/sendmail -i -t'

I also need to know if the perl setting is set right: #!/usr/bin/perl

Also should I put a cgi-bin inside of htdocs or will the cgi-bin in the xampp directory works for the htdocs as well.

I could really use the help making sure this is set right. Thanks

The XAMPP sendmail is located in "/xampp/sendmail/" and not "/usr/lib/". You can see the correct path in "php.ini" (phpinfo()). But you must configure it first.

I also need to know if the perl setting is set right: #!/usr/bin/perl

If you have a perl installed in "/usr/bin/", the path is correct. Thus the question is: You have a perl installed and which one?

or will the cgi-bin in the xampp directory works for the htdocs as well.

It will.

sendmail settings

Postby Txchaser » 24. January 2007 16:02

Ok I have run PHP info and no path value for send mail. I take it that I must configure that. Is this done in php.ini file here at this location?

[mail function]
; For Win32 only.
SMTP = mail.(mydomain is here).com
smtp_port = 25

; For Win32 only.
;sendmail_from = me@example.com

; For Unix only. You may supply arguments as well (default: "sendmail -t -i").
;sendmail_path = "C:\xampp\xampp\sendmail\sendmail.exe -t"

and xampp is installed on windows xp machine but can I still use the sendmail path shown for unix or will this be different?

Pearl is installed I cant remember now what version or for sure where.

Ok I have run PHP info and no path value for send mail.

Well, in PHP you can use direct SMTP mail (without auth) or sendmail. Your current configuration is for SMTP mail.

but can I still use the sendmail path shown for unix

The path must point to your sendmail binary (exe file).

Code: Select all
#!/usr/bin/perl

Pearl is installed I cant remember now what version or for sure where.

It't the same as with senmail: The shebang must point to your perl binary.

BTW:
I am trying to get a form mail script working the right way now.

Is this a Perl or PHP script?
