Apache crash

Postby sila » 16. January 2007 21:04

Hello, I'm newbie here but start using Xampp for a couple of month without any problem!

Now, after I reinstall my Mcafee software, my system become unstable, Apache is running high than before! So, my question is, Will the installer will overwrite my php.ini & httpd.conf if I reinstall the Xampp?

If the installer will overwrite the files, can I just save my files and overwrite the new files with my modified files (php.in & httpd.conf) ?

SERVER SPEC,

-WinXP PRO XP2
-Xampp ( v1.5.5 - Current Version )

PS : I want to reinstall the same version v 1.5.5

Regards,
SILA

First I would try and find out why the NackerAfee software was causing you these issues, perhaps by using Google to search for others who have similar issues with the software (not only with XAMPP) and if they found a solution.
If it is their software at fault then I doubt reinstalling XAMPP will make any difference at all.

If you still feel the need to reinstall a probably good XAMPP installation then all you need do is follow the instruction to uninstall the Installer version on the XAMPP for Windows page:
http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-windows.html#524

Also this FAQ might help:
http://www.apachefriends.org/en/faq-xam ... s.html#cpu

And McAfee is mentioned in this FAQ:
http://www.apachefriends.org/en/faq-xam ... ml#nostart

First you would back up any files you want to keep then copy and/or overwrite the newly installed files with your backups.

To properly and effectively uninstall XAMMP requires you to delete the xampp directory completely which would mean your configuration files would also be deleted. This is where your backup files come in handy.

This does not apply though if you were updating an XAMPP installation to a new version as your conf files and indeed any files not in the new version would not be over-written.

Except if the new version required a full installation which would be advised at the time of upgrading and would entail you editing the new version conf and ini files with your old changes not a file overwrite.
The newer conf and ini files might contain new version items not contained in the old conf and ini files which may cause the new version installation to break.
