change mysql version

Hi, what is the procedure to change the mysql version? I'd like to use the latest XAMPP with mysql 4.3.22. I've downloaded the "no install" version from mysql.com.

Do I just replace (and save) the mysql folder with the 4.3.22 folders that match? Are there any other settings? Since the paths won't change I'm thinking not.

thanks for any help,

just stop and remove the mysql service from xampp control screen.

once gone, you can install the latest and greatest STABLE version. download the INSTALL version.

dont forget to BACKUP the DATAFILES first!!!!!!!

now if you do this, you have the option of installing it anywhere. just after installing, edit the MY.INI and point it to the data dir...

or if you backed up, just dump the data back...
