virtual host

Hi can someone tell me what is the easiest way to create virtual hosts. I have several sites on my server, and wan't to use dns hosts instead of url redirects. as well as I have to keep on changing my url from the domain name to the server ip address then the site folder, in order to view my sites via local networ, and I believe that if I set up virtual hosts that it will fix both problems.
