apache server not starting anymore...

Dear all

I started using xampp a few weeks ago to develop something with PHP and mySQL. However, today for some reason it started having some major problems. For some reason every time I click "start" on the Apache server in the xampp control panel it looks like it's started, and then stops a few seconds later. I managed to find the errors logs, and maybe these will help:

Also, please note that I started two days ago blocking a few websites in my HOSTS file. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it.

This is the [crit]ical error message that is telling you what is holding up starting Apache.

You need to do this:
Uncheck the "Enable LMHOSTS Lookup" box in the TCP/IP protocol setup (under Advanced TCP/IP - WINS tab from your Windows ControlPanel - Network Connections). You should find it.

If that does't fix it I found another explanation that you may wish to follow:

"An invalid argument was supplied. : Child 2032: setup_inherited_listeners(),
WSASocket failed to open the inherited socket."

Tells me you have something, even an intregal part of the Windows OS, which has not correctly implemented the Winsock.dll interface.

Examples of possible offenders include antivirus, vpn or even network hardware drivers.

Since your software isn't implementing the win32 api correctly, there's nothing we can do to help you; take your question to an appropriate user support forum, this resource is for solving bugs in the -Apache- software.

XP SP2 installs a default Firewall, free the ports apache uses in the
fireall on TCP & UDP, this fixed my issue a while ago (default Firewall is
port 80)

Sorry, no. Things just happen in Windows that defy all logic. Seems that Windows designers like adding these little quirks either by chance or design.

You know what to do now if it happens again. Just keep your eye on it for a while.

LOL thanks. I have no clue about TCP/IP but I'm a bit of a techie...so I knew that you couldn't go on nothing.
