unable to access XAMPP Security console

I am unable to access the XAMPP Security console. I have installed XAMPP for Windows.

When I follow the installation instructions:

Since version 1.4.15:
http://127.0.0.1/security

I get a page not found message. I recall being asked by the installer if I wanted to activate/use MySQL, etc. "services," and I said "No" because I did not see that step in the installation instructions. Perhaps that explains why I cannot call up the XAMPP Security console?

All I want to do is play around with MySQL and PHP in a totally secure environment. Thanks for your help. I read through the other forum posts, but I did not see my exact problem, so I must have missed something.

Can you access http://localhost/ and get to the XAMPP Welcome Page?

Izzy please be aware that the Installer will not install into C:\ so the best option will be to install into C:\xampp, C:\webserver, C:\apachefriends, if you install into C:\xampp you will get paths like C:\xampp\xampp and so on C:\webserver\xampp, C:\apachefriends\xampp.

If you want to install into C:\ you must use the zip version which will give you C:\xampp\allyourfiles.

But first blank25 please open up your XAMPP Control Panel and double check that you have Apache and MySQL running. If they aren't running please click on the Start buttons to start them, then Navigate to http://localhost. Also you can install the services using the XAMPP Control Panel by checking "Svc" next to Apache, MySQL, FileZilla, then restarting to your computer.

Thanks for your help, WorldDrknss. I went to the XAMPP control panel, and I put a check mark next to MySQL, FileZilla, and Apache.

I was able to set a password for the XAMPP directory, MySQL and FileZilla. A couple quick questions about security settings:

1. Under MySQL, in the Security window for XAMPP, it reads in the section below where you change the password:

PhpMyAdmin authentification: http or coookie, and the default is set to cookie. Should I choose http or cookie?

2. In FileZilla, I went to Users > General and removed the users, and I added myself, and typed a password. Is it alright to remove the default users?

3. I have a firewall in place, but is there any other way I can make XAMPP more secure on my computer? Any other recommended tips?

Also, MySQL is checked on the control panel, and it is running, but it will not always display the status of "running," unlike Apache and FileZilla. Don't know why it won't show MySQL as running.

Its recommened that you remove the default users.

As long as you setup the security and have a firewall, then your secure as your going to get.

Is this under http://localhost/xampp/status.php just ignore it, if its not showing running in the XAMPP Control Panel, uncheck "Svc" for MySQL and then recheck it.
