Problems with php sending parameters within URL

Hi all,

I'm new to XAMPP. I just upgraded from 1.4.16 to 1.5.3a, then I found my previous site doesn't work anymore. The main page using sytax like this "index.php?task=login". But the when I read $task it is always empty so the following procedures will never be triggered. Revert back to 1.4.16 everything is fine.

It must be something related to 1.5.3a. Can anyone tell me how to fix it? Many thanks! (Maybe I need to change php.ini?)
