More than one piece of software...

Ok so at the moment I am running a forum on XAMPP but there is something else I really want is there any way I can have two you know pieces of software running at the same time on XAMPP??

Yes, you can have as many as will fit on your hard drive.

Scripts or 'programs' as you call them, do not run in the true sense of the word like a program runs on your PC.

They are called by a request from a browser or from within another script.

So in effect they are not "running" they are only "waiting" to be called into action when you ask for them in your browser by typing in a URL request. A server can handle many requests at the same time to different scripts.

So you can have a bulletin board a chat page a shopping cart etc. etc. all either within modules in a content manager or as stand alone features of a web site.
