HELP ME PLEASE!!! Cannot change document root

Hello
I work on a dual boot laptop that is used for web development work. Most of the time I use the Linux partition and have XAMPP for Linux installed on there - no problems.
I have a FAT partition on the laptop hard drive that I use as a shared drive between Windows XP & Linux. I want to keep all my websites on this shared partition and be able to access them via XAMPP on either operating system.
I have manged to change the document root in XAMPP for Linux to the shared drive (E:\work\websites) but I cannot do the same in XAMPP for Windows (really annoying!)
I have tried to edit the httpd.conf under Windows as below:
Then when I restart XAMPP I get the following error in my browser:
Access forbidden!
You don't have permission to access the requested directory. There is either no index document or the directory is read-protected.
If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster.
Error 403
localhost
08/02/06 16:47:39
Apache/2.2.0 (Win32) DAV/2 mod_ssl/2.2.0 OpenSSL/0.9.8a mod_autoindex_color PHP/4.4.1-pl1
There is an index document in E:\work\websites so does that mean that it is a permissions issue?
Am I wasting my time or does anybody know if this can be done?
Thanks
Jay
