Do you run Skype ? I always have to shut down Skype to start Xampp. Once Xampp runs, I can start Skype again.

No, i don't run Skype.
I'm also running IIS but it has been working fine and IIS is listening on another TCP Port than 80 or 8080.

hi...i have downloaded the latest version of xampp, only to find out that the problem remains...
Apache service starts and stops imediatly.

Anyone has a possible reason for this?
I have checked and my system tells me the port 80 and 8080 are free to use, so i guess no other service is using this ports.

Did you uninstall your previous version of xampp before installing the new?

Did you install it and then goto http://localhost before making any changes what so ever?

Yes i did uninstall th eprevious versions, all i had to do was uninstalling the services (apche, mysql, mercury, etc).

i never had this kind of problem, the apache server simply refuses to stay awake, starts and then stops.
i have no problems with the other services...
if i go to http://localhost it says the server exists but can't reach it.

Service wont start for me either...

I am very new to the open source. I have been programming in Access databases for about 4-5 years now. I have found it problematic to keep purchasing all of the additions that Microsoft would have me purchase in order to keep up with their systems.

I have decided to start learning Msql and Php. I decided I would go further with this and use Apache, because my next move will be to Linux.

My problem is that I may not have set up the service properly, though I did follow the directions and used a usb device, but the service for Apache will not run on my computer. I cannot access the mysql or php functions. I am devoting a lot of time to open source once I can use this service for development. If you could give me some advice I would be greatful.
