I am a noob to this, and having read all the helpful posts on this subject, I finally worked out how to change permissions in windows...

You need FileZilla

Open your copy of FileZilla and connect. Go to the menu at the top and go to Edit/Users.

In the middle box on the widow that pops up click on the file/s or directory/ies shown there.

Once it is clicked on, you will see that the tick boxes to the right become ungrayed out.

Tick all the boxes for both files and directories. This will give you the equivalent of 777 permissions and you will be able to change directory names and make directories.

Hope this saves someone half an hour!
