Cant connect to MySQL

when i click on phpMyAdmin, i get a message saying Cannot connect: invalid settings. and that phpMyAdmin tried to connect to the MySQL server and the server rejected the connection. it also says i should check the host, username and password in config.inc.php. Pls, wht is this: config.inc.php. i need help real quick.

Under the last sub-heading "MySQL and PHP" You find that you need to change the settings in the config.inc.php file of phpMyAdmin.
