Faulure when upgrading XAMPP to 1.5

I have been using XAMPP (version 1.4.16) and I wanted to upgrade to the recent version 1.5.1.
To start off clean I saved the files I modified myself (hppt.conf, php.ini and some directories in \htdocs) and used the XAMPP UNINSTALL program.

The uninstaller seemed to erase everything, except for some files in the mySQL directory (libeay32.dll and some other dll's) - the uninstaller couldn't remove them because they were in use.
I did not think much of it, but it became problematic when the new installer (I used the WinXP installer version) couldn't install a new version of those files in that same mySQL directory.

What have I done wrong? Do I need to have the newest version? Or can I ignore the installers update attempt?
I now have an XAMPP directory containing just the mySQL directory with those stuck files, and no uninstaller to remove them. My Windows Explorer won't let me delete them either (in use), although I did a system restart in the hope that my XAMPP services would no longer be restarted and those dll's would be freed.

Anyone able to give some wise advice, please do ...

I think theyre programs running and locking that files. You need to shutdown all programs, before you try to remove the files.

I must have found it: it was the WinSQLAdministrator, indocated by the traffic light in the ActivePrograms section of the taskbar.
Apparently the is independent from the uninstaller.

I have switched it off, and now XAMPP has installed without problems!
