Xampp problems with apache and mySql

I think i have made the cardinal mistake of uninstalling previous versions of apache and mySql on my pc resulting in faulty Xampp installation

on booting up xampp it says ....service not running(-1)

Any help would be appreciated in ridding my system of previous unclean uninstalls
