XAMMP aborts installation, finds mysql/apache already there

Hi there

I had a previous installation of XAMMP which I uninstalled and deleted the parent directory.

Now, when I try to install XAMMP again, I get a message saying "apache already installed. abort!" and the same thing for mysql. I've tried searching the hard drive, but there's nothing there.

Help!!

:(

You have uninstalled the services also?

I used the XAMMP uninstaller. Does this uninstall the services?

How do I check?

Thanks

Hmm. Nothing in windows Task Manager.

I don't think there is an installation of mysql or apache on my pc. Why does xammp think there is? Any ideas?

Nothing in windows Task Manager.

Task Manager != Service Manager

start "services.msc"

 Sorry.

Yes, both apache2 and mysql are in there. Both show a "path to .exe" to a directory that doesn't now exist. Any suggestions on how I can fix this.

In a command window (cmd.exe) use sc:
Code: Select all
sc delete [service name]

"[service name]" is the name from "services.msc".

Thanks for all your help.

Things look bad, though:

"The specified service does not exist as an installed service" It's in the services list, independent of its .exe file and cannot be removed.

Any ideas?
