Control Panel a little out of control

Postby kupe » 26. August 2005 10:32

I've installed the latest version of xampp and it looks great.

However, the control panel doesn't seem to recognise when MySQL is running. In fact, it says

Xampp Control Panel Version 2.1 says
MySQL service not started [-1]
Busy …

This is what the Xampp Control Panel gives overall …

Apache State 0 Service 1 Start 0 thread 0 Op 0
Mysql State 0 Service 1 Start 0 thread 0 Op 0
ftp State 0 Service 1 Start 0 thread 0 Op 0
mercury State 0 Service 0 Start 0 thread 0 Op 0

Is there a way, please, to give the control panel control of MySQL?

Hello

Is xmapp in the C:\xmapp folder or have you installed it elsewhere?

at a dos prompt type

Code: Select all
net start mysql

That should start mysql if its installed as a service. However it may not may not be. If you cd around to the directory that mysql is installed (default- c:\apachefriends\xampp\mysql\ ) then type:

Code: Select all
start mysql -i

I think anyway. I kinda forget how windows does this kinda stuff as Ive been using Red-Hat linux for a while now.

Hi keepsedge

I have tried with the first, but that doesn't do it. The second command is new to me, and I will certainly try that tonight.

I've found a way to get mysql started - and crazily I'm not sure how that is. I think it is when I click on the Restart icon. After that, I can start it going on the Command Prpmpt.

But even when it's going, the control panel says it isn't. Many thanks for the suggestions.

This new version of xampp - '15', I think - will only will be installed in the programme files. So the old idea of it being best on the root of C seems to no longer apply. Cheers

Hi bugman

As I mentioned to keepsedge, this new version of xampp - '15', I think - will only will be installed in the programme files. So the old idea of it being best on the root of C seems to no longer apply.

Means rather more CD-ing, of course.

So the path is c:/programme/xampp

Cheers

Hi keepsegde

Really envy your redhat linux situation. I can't wait to get involved with it. The open source thing is the way to go - and what I've seen of linux is every bit as good as u-no-hoo's.
