I have been using XAMPP on Windows XP for several months without problem. Suddenly, I cannot start Apache using the control panel. I press start and Apache immediately stops. Any idea what might cause this? Thanks for your help.

Update: Did a bit more searching in the forum and discovered that Skype was the problem in my case. Stopped Skype and now Apache starts. IIS can also be an issue.

Actually, you have solved your problem.

Basically you cannot start IIS or skype when you run apache.

for more details, go to apache log file.

That's not 100% correct. You can run skype. You just must start it after you start up your server(s) that use port 80. Skype will grab them if it can, but won't complain, and will still function, if port 80 is already taken when it is started.
