zend encoded php file (NEWBIE questions)

installed xampp INstaller standard default settings (windows)
phpinfo() says zend is running/ optizimer
I have a simple zend encoded file sent to me
Fatal error: Incompatible file format: The encoded file has format major ID 0, whereas the Optimizer expects 2 in test.php
ummm. anyhelp here?
