Character encoding from Windows to Linux

Postby ferris » 03. March 2005 15:32

Perhaps someone has experienced and solved this:
I'm exporting MySQL data to text files as well as other data,
porting to Linux all works fine except some special characters like ü, é and others are coverted to Japanese style characters...

Something to do with the XAMP installation?

Another - minor - problem was some spaces were converted to ? signs but this is a very minor thing.

Despite the seriousness of the situation, that "conversion auto from english to japanese" is really hilarious!

I'd say this was because of the character set you are using. Convert them all to UTF-8 and there should be no problems.
