I filled out config.inc.php in the phpmyadmin folder but cant seem to log in using the info i provided. How do I fix this?

Password is not set in there, use the xampp security page instead to set it and the MySQL password which uses the same. Then login with root and your new password - readme_en.txt file (A matter of security (A MUST READ!)

No since there is already an original back up provided as config.inc.php.safe.

I already secured mysql but i will look into the link you posted. Thanks!
