can not login to phpMyAdmin

I have the following:
Apache HTTP Server 2.2.9
MySQL 5.1
PHP 5.2.6
PHPmyAdmin 2.11.8.1
I can run php files on my localhost without issues. My problem is when I want to log in to PHPmyAdmin. When I enter root and the password and OK to login, the following error appears:
Can anyone please help me fixing this???
