New XAMPP version for Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X

Postby Oswald » 15. April 2009 09:11

Life is no Ponyhof (a modern German saying): With an unusually long and arduous 8-week beta phase, we have finally managed to release and announce a new "final" XAMPP version.

In this version of XAMPP we mainly updated: MySQL (5.1.33), PHP (5.2.9), and phpMyAdmin (3.1.3.1). The Linux and Mac OS X versions also contain updated versions of ProFTPD (1.3.2) and the Windows version updated FileZilla FTP Server to 0.9.31. And finally for all the early adopters we added current versions of the MySQL storage engines PBXT and PBMS to the Linux version of XAMPP.

As of today the Mac OS X version ends it beta status and enters the regular XAMPP release cycle. Thanks to Christian 'kleinweby' Speich for this great achievement and his work of the last months.

The downloads and more accurate details about the new versions are available at the respective XAMPP project page.

Hello,

Thanks for the new version but this is the 5.2.9-2 version of PHP ?

And why you have not put OpenSSL 0.9.8k and phpMyAdmin 3.1.3.2 ?

XAMPP on FreeBSD

Postby cx1964 » 15. May 2009 18:12

I want to use XAMPP on FreeBSD.
Because there is no native XAMPP version for FreeBSD is available, I would like to know, which XAMPP distribution can I use for FreeBSD?
Can I use the Mac OS X distribution, or do I use the Solaris distribution?
Or do I download the linux distribution and use it with the linux support in FreeBSD?
Which option do you recommend?

Non of them.

Only XAMPP for Linux may be possible. But the (startup) scripts assuming a lot of Linux specifics stuffs. Instead of preparing your Linux binary compatibility layer for XAMPP, it's easier and faster to install the necessary packages with pkg_add or portinstall.
