MariaDB? why?

i always felt like this was going to be a poor man's database.

MySQL always had some problems. MariaDB wasn't going to fix what was wrong with MySQL.

Why not?

Which database management system do you prefer? PostgreSQL? Oracle? MSSQL?
For webapplications MySQL/MariaDB is the leading DBMS. MySQL is natively integrated into PHP so that decission is not really surprising.

Wordpress and Google are just two of the big players switched from MySQL to MariaDB. Not bad for a "poor man's database", isn't it?

Very unspecific. Which problems?

Because Oracle is planning to charge for MySQL. Do you want to pay for it?

So what make MySQL better when it "always had some problem"?
