XAMPP Application Error!

Exception EAccessViolation in module xampp-control.exe at 001AA712
Access violation at address 005AA712 in module 'xampp-control.exe' Read of address 00000042.

Twice today. The Control Panel was running minimised on both occasions. Windows shuts it down, fortunately leaving Apache, MySQL and PHP running. No other program conflict noticed.

Re: PHP Not Working

I am assuming that to unregister a service one must stop it and turn off the service. This worked fine with MySQL; however, trying to stop Apache crashed the control panel:
Image

The error message:
Exception EAccessViolation in module xampp-control.exe at 001ABEFE. Access violation at address 005ABEFE in module 'xampp-control.exe'. Read of address 00000042.

Interestingly, there are no error logs for Apache (nor any logs at all, for that matter). This has happened previously too.

If I try doing it again while resizing the window before starting apache it just freezes without giving me the last three lines at all...) sorry i don't have a hosted image site or i would include a picture

and in case you ask me to try running "apache_start.bat" in the main XAMPP folder", umm. I don't actually know what that means???

additional info: windows vista, 1.8.1-0, and this worked after I installed it. recently i installed "railsinstaller" which includes these items:
Ruby 1.9.3-p392
Rails 3.2
Bundler
Git
Sqlite
osx-gcc-installer
JewelryBox
RVM
SM Framework

maybe there's a conflict there?
thank you for any help

Thanks! Sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm new to all of this. If you need any logs just reply and I'll add them ASAP.

I've looked for a "mysqld.exe" but I cannot find a file or anything anywhere on my computer that matches that.

I have the same problem.

But I managed to make it work.

in the panel installation xampp apache off and hit the start button and fixed.

that's an option.

best thing I can say to a C programmer is:
- check anything with pointers or arrays that it is not out of bounds (this might be the case with an access violation)
- or a pointer is trying to access memory not belonging to it,
- or someone forgot to allocate memory (oops).
- forgetting to free memory is another problem.
- so is freeing memory on a pointer and then trying to use it.
- calling a win32 api function with bad parameters (!)
- calling a win32 api function with parameters from an older copy of the MSDN (the API's data types DO change over time, including WinMain()) (!)

this looks pointer related or possibly Win32 API related.
think about these things when debugging code.

Re: I am getting a System Error Code 5 Access is denied when

I got the same problem when starting Xampp 1.8.1 with Apache2.4.

If I do not use the apache service it works fine, but as soon as the servcie is installed I got "Access violation" in Xampp-Control.exe after getting a return code 5 from the service manager.
I guess xampp does check for this type of this error. ?? This should explain why its fails also.

To make sure everything comes from Apache I tried to start its service manually. I got Error code 5 Access is denied. I did many tries. The last one was :
1. Uninstall the Apache service
2. Remove all files from the prefetch sub-folder of the Windows folder
3. Check all services to be sure there is no other Apache service
3. Stop all applications
4) restart Windows.

That had had absolutely no effect.

I'm wondering if it is not related to the Windows security ? I am the administrator of my System (in fact I am the only user). My System is Vista (32 bits) home edition. And I don't have any firewall activated.
I had no problem at all with the previous version of Xampp (Apache2.2).

For the moment it is not very critical because I can run Apache without the service. But I'd like to understand the reason. So, any good advice or help would be very welcome.

Thanks in advance

Hi there
I am using 3.0.2, the link I used was the second one in the list as the first on is sending a 404 error message

Version 3.2.0 Downloads:

Re: Xampp for windows 7

Hi There
I am sorry not to have replied to your post before but I have been trying to get it to work now for months now and still no joy.
I have removed all the Xampp files and reinstalled several times. I have put in the Control panel you gave me the link for in the same folder but what ever I do I get this message.
Exception EAccessViolation in module xampp-control.exe at 001ABEFE.
Access violation at address 005ABEFE in module'xammp-control.exe'.
Read of address 00000042

I have installed Xampp on my laptop running XP with no problem, but the main computer running windows 7 just will not work. It is a 64 bi t machine but I don't think that it should make a difference. I have switched off the User Account Control and Skype and the IIS is set to port 8080 but that does not seemed to have made any difference either.
Have you any bright ideas
Regards
Jacq
