That's great, thanks. 8)

Altrea may also come to the party with a German translation if you have no luck with Stephen.

I will shortly add a link to your update version info and download links post in my signature for convenience in informing members and forum readers that there is an updated version from the original beta included in 1.7.7.

I could also split that huge topic with just your update info and links post to a new topic and then make it a sticky which may also make it easier to manage for you - let me know if that would be the way to go.
(If, as expected, you will have posters add to the sticky, often because it has had a huge amount of views, then I could merge those posts into the original Topic which will keep the sticky at a manageable size, I will also add a posts to the sticky to that effect).

I think that hackattack142 was looking for a translation of the German language content in the src\locale\de\LC_MESSAGES\ folder :) but the addition of the sticky would be most welcome for German members and readers. 8)

I just posted 3.0.9. The most notable change is the inclusion of the German translation again (Thanks Altrea). Let me know if any of the translations need to be adjusted.

first impressions:
- Avira Antivir gives a false positive
- some dialog don't fit on my netbook (1024x600px)
- some german translations have to be revised

i will send you a better translation.

Avira Antivir returned this detection (false positive or not ) from the scan report:
Code: Select all
  [0] Archive type: 7-Zip
  --> CPv3/xampp-control-3-beta8.exe
      [DETECTION] Is the TR/Fraud.Gen2 Trojan
Using Jotti online scan only Avira Antivir reported a detection which would indicate a false positive.

There are many Avira Free Antivir user out there so it needs to be sorted fairly quickly to help keep the control panel's integrity.

My advise in the meantime is not to download this latest update version 3.0.9 until the problem is recognised and rectified and a possible note or a link to the file temporarily removed on the update topic page.

It's worth remembering that not everybody has a wide screen monitor just like some people still can't access broadband.

Also these screen resolution issues and browser compatibility are a pain for web site developers but they need to be considered for maximum readability by all, if possible. :)

I am sure that everyone is eternally grateful, as I am, to the developers of XAMPP Control Panel V3 which is now a true Control Panel and is much improved over the old (now warn out) nat32 version, which stood tall for many years, the mini-xcp (unknown member but possibly razvan), which never really took off at all and last but not least, DTX based on the nat32 version from forum member ridgewood.

Thanks, once again, to all involved in producing this truly full featured XAMPP Control Panel (XCP3).

Best wishes. :)

I can get the german translation updated easily enough but I believe that is probably what is causing the false positive since that is the only real thing that changed in 3.0.9.

With the virus detection, I am sure it is due to how the translations get integrated into the program. It is done after compile time so I am not sure how it hooks or patches itself into the executable. I am sure this type of behavior could be seen as potentially malicious but there is not much I can do about a false positive other than: A - removing the translation, B - Reporting the false positive and hoping it gets fixed or C - coming up with a completely new way to do translations. I looked up that specific detection and it appears to be a blanket generic detection to catch unknown variants of that specific threat. I have submitted the file to Avira as a possible false positive but for now I will go with Option A and restore 3.0.8 until one of the other options can be pursued (post will be updated shortly after this is posted).

Regarding the interface, it is more a matter of resolution than screen size. I use it from a laptop so I do not have a large screen but I do have a fairly high resolution. I am not an interface designer so if you have suggestions as to how things should be arranged, I can look into that. Presumably there is a way to make the interface automatically resize and scale itself but I have yet to find that or get it to work. I can keep investigating this as well but may not be a quick fix.

The temporary message in your update post can be easily deleted when you add the 3.0.8 link.

I don't know how long Avira take to rectify false positives but sometimes there is a snow ball effect with other anti-virus utilities once a well known utility spots and reports a detection - I hope Avira respond soon (they are a German company so they should be able to translate the German content easily) as this looks to be a difficult issue to solve otherwise.

Good morning,

just some words regarding the translations:
- For normally the embedded translations are NOT recognized as a virus
- Maybe it is another part of the application that may look dangerous to Avira?
- As a solution you can put the translated .mo files in a subfolder locale\de\LC_MESSAGES instead embedding them after compiling into the exe

Maybe you can avoid this alert by changing something in the program...

Kind regards,
Steffen

I agree that it should not be recognized in such a way. The only code changes i made between 3.0.8 and 3.0.9 was stretching some GUI components to fit the translations so I am sure it was the embedding of the translations that caused the detection. I am not sure what I did differently from you when you did it. I will continue that conversion via PM though.

I also heard back from Avira and here is a snippet of the report they sent back to me:
A listing of files alongside their results can be found below:
File ID Filename Size (Byte) Result
26398713 xampp-control-3-beta8.exe 2.57 MB FALSE POSITIVE

Please find a detailed report concerning each individual sample below:
Filename Result
xampp-control-3-beta8.exe FALSE POSITIVE

The file 'xampp-control-3-beta8.exe' has been determined to be 'FALSE POSITIVE'.In particular this means that this file is not malicious but a false alarm.Detection will be removed from our virus definition file (VDF) with one of the next updates.

As we all suspected and to ease everyone's mind, it was indeed a false positive and hopefully it will not take long for them to get updated definitions out.

That is good news indeed and was expected. :)

It would have been even more helpful of Avira if they could have pointed to the part of the exe content that caused the FP (I am sure that they would know), which would have made your investigation much easier.

Best wishes. :)

Re: *** New XAMPP CONTROL PANEL Version 3 ***

In the past, I changed entries in the httpd.conf file to point to my local directory: DocumentRoot and <Directory ...>. Both of these are pointed to "D:/Website" which is the root directory of the local version of my site. As I noted in my post a couple of years back, in earlier versions of the main control panel I could then click 'Admin' next to Apache Start in the XAMPP Control Panel, and this would immediately access 'index.php' in the "D:/Website/"directory. However, from v1.7.2, this wanted to access "D:/Website/xampp/", and so returns a file not found error.

I was told this was hard-wired into the control panel, and could not be changed. However, v1.7.7 seems to have 'corrected' this: clicking 'Admin' next to Apache Start on the standard panel allows me directly to access my site.

However, the V3.0.8 version of the Control Panel retains the 'problem', automatically adding '/xampp' to the 'localhost' setting. Is this also hard-wired, or can it be changed?
