Limited BW and HD space?

Postby jimbean69 » 20. August 2007 15:09

I am now well on my way to hosting websites for some of my friends. The problem I am faced with now is limiting the bandwidth and hard drive space for each of their websites. How do I go about doing this?

Anyone care to chime in? also, alittle off topic but, can someone explain the purpose of databases? are they needed for websites? how many are needed per website? any examples on what they are used for? hope you guys can answer all these questions. Keep up the great work!

Might be worth downloading and installing and then to checkout out all the features of the ZPanel Project version 2.5 beta 11:
http://www.thezpanel.com/?page=home

It is also modular, meaning you can add modules created by developers to enhance the panel's features.

Support forums here:
http://www.thezpanel.com/forums/

I seem to remember in an older version I have somewhere that when you set up a new hosting account you can specify what quotas each client can use.
If not in the above version then the new version 3 below would be able to as displayed in the left panel of their demo.

At the same site above under the NEW - Blog page you will see a new version 3 being actively developed called RapidCP.

There is a demo version of it here:
http://demo.rapidcp.com:1818
User: demo
Pass: demo

I think I pointed out in your previous post that a hosting control panel would be a better choice to use for your hosting venture.

There may be other free panels out there that would require you to try and track them down via a Google search perhaps.

For ease of use and being able to set quotas on an individual client basis I would plump for a hosting control panel every time.

If you want to configure Apache and I am not sure if this is possible then I would read the Apache Documentation:
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.3/

Or you can wait until another forum member has the time and the knowledge to answer your questions.

As with all projects, research is the key to development and is often quicker than waiting around.

It is not possible with the combination of Xampp and Windows (without adding other tools like mentioned by Izzy).

Switch to a Linux based system and you can restrict the user home directories' size in an easy way.
